The project’s goal was to train six groups of women in beekeeping as a much needed source of income.
The project was split into 3 phases with two group strained and provided with beehives in each phase. Ongoing supporting and mentoring was provided by our local partner, SRDA.
Many of the women in the groups are unmarried or widowed and all are subsistence farmers. Ongoing froughts caused by the global climate crisis has affected their crop production, challenging their livelihoods even more.
Unfortunately, the same droughts affecting their crops have caused the hive colonisation rates to remain extremely low, and thus making it hard to realise the goal of additional income through honey sales.
